Abstract

Background. Prosthetic hernioplasty is widely used in the treatment of patients with inguinal and ventral hernias. A favorable result of the surgery depends on properties of the material used as well as patient’s reaction to implantation. Materials and methods. The work is based on the study of the results of surgical treatment of 122 patients with inguinal and postoperative ventral hernias. All patients underwent analysis of several parameters of the immune response. TNF-alpha, IL-8, related to pro-inflammatory, as well as IL-4, which implements anti-inflammatory and indirectly profibrogenic effects, were chosen as the studied cytokines. Levels were assessed by EIA in the preoperative period, on the 6th and 10th day after surgery. Results. The level of IL-4 has been significantly higher in patients with biological implants used. We have observe the early decreasing of cytokines level that indicates the most favorable processes of regeneration and formation of connective tissue in the surgical area. Conclusion. The use of biological gernioprosthesis has advantages in patients with postoperative ventral hernias, since it makes it possible to neutralize the severity of the inflammatory response in response to implantation and accelerate the formation of connective tissue early.
